The Bands of June Jam!

07:15 pm - 08:30 pm
Thirteen to One Playing at the 2010 June Jam in Houston Delaware

13:1 was formed Christmas of 08. We started a few months before basically toying with some band and genre ideas. We didn't have a singer at that time, so our bass player PJ wanted to give it a shot. We then found a prodigy 16 whose true identity is still unknown but we like to call him Brandon. Once these two pieces of the puzzle were matched, we became... 13:1

But Like Most Bands after about 7 months of playing, we took a small hit with the loss of our drummer John K. So we had a good friend of ours Justin Mayhorn from D.T.C. to Step in and Record the Drums on the upcoming album. Then we took an even bigger hit when our good friend and bass player Brandon told us he was leaving the band. Well after a few hard weeks on trying to cancel the thought that this band was going to die, we came across a local drummer from Smyrna, DE... "Allen Siembida". Allen fit right in, and is the new 13:1 Drummer. After Trying out a few Bass Players we found a local bassist from Dover, DE... "Shannon Ouimet". Just like Allen did, She fit right in. She is the new 13:1 Bassist.

13:1 has been around for about a year now, went through some tough times, but we've rebuilt, found two new awesome people, and were going to be coming out harder and stronger then before...

Dana Fuchs Live at June Jam 2010

A Professional Musician at 16 Dana has been around the world demonstrating the more contemporary version of the power and passion of the Blues with a little Rock and Roll thrown into the mix. Dana has been called a “phenomenon” and has been compared to the legendary Janis Joplin. With the onstage energy of Mick Jagger, Dana and her show continually bring’s folks to their feet. Influenced musically by the Stones, Dylan, BB king and vocally compared to Etta James, Aretha Franklin, & Janis. Her warm, powerful and textured voice will leave you mesmerized.

The youngest of six musical children, Dana was raised in a small town in rural Florida surrounded by music- her older siblings' band playing classic rock in the garage, Ray Charles and Hank Williams on her parents' turntable, and a big dose of 70's and 80's funk at school. At the age of 12 she joined the First Baptist Gospel Choir and was singing, shouting, and praising the lord every week in a small black church on the outskirts of town. At 16 she was fronting a popular local band at a roadside Holiday Inn. It was the beginning of a hunger for singing and the stage that Wildwood, Florida couldn't possibly satiate. Soon she was headed north telling friends and family she was "going to New York to sing the blues."

Arriving in NYC alone and broke at the age of 19, Dana soon found herself down and out on Manhattan's Lower East Side. After the wake-up call of her older sister's suicide (Donna was Dana's first musical mentor), Dana pulled herself together, determined to reconnect with her passion for music and began hitting the local blues jams with a vengeance. It was at one of these jams that she met Jon Diamond, an established NYC guitarist who had toured with Joan Osborne and W.C. Handy Award winner Debbie Davies. Immediately recognizing a musical chemistry they formed the Dana Fuchs Band. Within a year the band was a feature act at NYC's best blues clubs, often sharing the stage and performing with the likes of John Popper, James Cotton, and Taj Mahal. For another year Dana immersed herself in the blues, playing 3 long sets a night, 4 nights a week until 3 am, honing her already formidable vocal power and performance style, and building a large, loyal
following.

After 2 years of working the blues circuit Dana knew it was time for a change and decided to tell her own story and create her own music. She and Jon began writing intensively, putting together a solid body of original rock songs. Soon Dana was back on the Lower East Side again, only this time on stage with the band, debuting her songs to a packed house at Arlene's Grocery. The fan response was overwhelming. The band was soon selling out shows at The Mercury Lounge, The Stephen Talkhouse and BB King's, sharing the bill with national acts, Little Feat, Marianne Faithfull, and Etta James.

Not long after the producers of the off-Broadway hit "Love, Janis," hearing raves about Dana from various cast and crew members, asked her to come in for an audition. Dana went in, sang a few bars of "Piece of My Heart," and, on the spot, was offered the role of Janis Joplin. Playing Janis 4 nights a week garnered Dana a whole new audience who were soon at the DFB's shows listening to Dana performing her own music.

These songs can be heard on the band's debut CD, Lonely For A Lifetime, which was released to an enthusiastic response from both press and fans. Drawing from influences ranging from '60s Stax/Volt R&B, Lucinda Williams and The Rolling Stones, Lonely for A Lifetime, hints, lyrically, at Tom Waits and Bob Dylan, among others. Says Fuchs, "I wanted to capture a soulful and rocking vibe...but with an earthiness to it." Vocally Dana was inspired by legendary singers including Etta James, Otis Redding, Bobby Bland, Aretha Franklin, and Mavis Staples.

Notable tracks include 'Strung Out," "Lonely For A Lifetime" and "Bible Baby." Explains Fuchs, "These tracks are about addiction and religious hypocrisy, and like all of the tracks on the album deal with subjects that I have a deep personal experience with. It's crucial to me to have a passionate connection to what I'm delivering in order to create a sincere representation of me, my life and my influences."

Producer, co-writer, guitarist Jon Diamond says: "Dana is blessed with an incredibly warm, powerful and textured voice. Her lyrics are direct and real. And while she has really studied the great soul, rock & blues singers, she has synthesized those influences into her own unique sound and style."

Nikki Barr playing live at June Jam 2010

With their magnetic stage presence; strong, memorable lyrics; and their intensely superior musicianship, the Niki Barr Band is quickly becoming a hot topic in the music industry and amongst national and international fans!

The Niki Barr Band play rock n roll, pure and simple. Front woman Niki Barr has been on stage in one way or another since a very young age. One of her performances caught the attention of Mike Marucci of Marucci Artist Management Inc. and a short time later, the 15 year-old singer had a manager.

By age 16, Niki had already begun recording with pro ducer/mixer/engineer Jim Ebert (Butch Walker, Marvelous 3, Meredith Brooks) on several demos that would become her first EP, The Other Side of Me.

She's now 24 and for such a young woman, Niki has accomplished more than many artists twice her age. Niki has had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest names in the recording industry, including songwriters/producers The Matrix, Wizards of Oz, Mathew Gerrard, Butch Walker, Aaron Johnson, and Stephen Lironi.

Niki released her first full-length record in 2004, titled “Lush” - produced by Jim Ebert. Shortly after, she filmed a music video for her single “Wasted Time”, directed by Andrew Paul Bowser, which was released as a DVD. The single, “Wasted Time” became the #1 single on Sky Radio in the UK for over 6 weeks.

In 2006, Niki released another EP, titled “Go”, teaming up, once again with Jim E bert as producer. The single “Go” sat atop Sky Radio's Pulse Rated charts for over 8 weeks in the UK.
=2 0
Itching to move beyond her “solo singer/songwriter” label, Niki joined with bassist Scott Ensign, guitarist Island Styles, and drummer BJ Kerwin to begin performing, writing, and recording as the Niki Barr Band.

It is worth noting that the Niki Barr Band is no stranger to rigorous touring. The band just completed their 3rd (and Niki's 10th) Armed Forces Entertainment Tour, which took the band to locations=2 0around the world, performing for the US Troops in the Middle East, Japan, UK, and many other countries throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. The tours sparked the interest of Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Wall Street Journal, and Time Magazine, who featured stories of the band's tours overseas. Shortly after their return from their most recent tour in the Middle East, the band appeared on the nationally acclaimed NPR Radio show “Border Crossings” with host, Larry London.

With the music industry at a stand still, the band looks above and beyond, continuing to write and release new music, and bringing their audiences (new and old) the energetic, soulful performances NBB fans have grown to love and new audiences quickly fall in love with.

The band will soon release a live DVD of the band's recent AFE tour in the Middle East - release date TBA.

The b and will also release a new EP on their own label, NBE, set to be released May 24, 2008. The20new EP, titled 'Bloom', is written, recorded, and produced entirely by the band. For the first time in Niki and the band's history, 'Bloom' is a 5-song musical masterpiece, in which the band took complete control of the musical and artistic direction. To date, you probably won't hear anything more personal and raw than this!
